Karisma added that while family members praise good performances, they also offer constructive feedback whenever needed.
Karisma Kapoor is gearing up for her much-awaited comeback with Brown, and ahead of the series release, she reflected on the strong support system that has guided her throughout her journey in the film industry. Born into one of Bollywood’s most renowned families, Karisma shared that her relatives eagerly watch her projects but are equally honest when it comes to criticism. Speaking exclusively to Zoom, the actress revealed that while her sister Kareena Kapoor remains one of her strongest supporters, another family member has consistently been her harshest critic. Karisma also opened up about why she initially turned down Brown and discussed the challenges of stepping into the shoes of its layered and demanding lead character.
Karisma Shares How Family Support and Honest Feedback Shape Her Journey
Karisma Kapoor revealed that her family is eagerly awaiting the series, with everyone excited and looking forward to watching it. “They’re very excited and they want to watch it. Like I said, we love it when we see each other’s work. For us, it’s family. But it’s not like, ‘Oh, it’s my family, so this is very nice.’ We tell each other the truth,” she stated.

The actress shared that honest criticism has always been a part of her family culture. Growing up in the Kapoor family, surrounded by actors, constructive feedback was considered essential for improvement and growth. When asked who the family’s toughest critic was, Karisma instantly named her mother, without a moment’s hesitation or second thought.
“Honestly, my mother. She would straight away tell me, even back in the day, ‘Yeh kya hai?’” she revealed with a laugh. Karisma added that she values such honesty because it helps her grow as an actor. “I think it’s important when you get honest feedback from your family. I’m lucky enough that we have such brilliant actors in the family anyway, so they give you honest feedback. I think that’s important and an amazing quality, that we can see things as they are,” she stated.
Inside Karisma and Kareena Kapoor’s Sisterly Relationship
Karisma revealed that she and her sister Kareena Kapoor have always stood by each other, offering unwavering support through life. “I think we both are each other’s biggest cheerleaders, whether it’s in our profession or outside our profession. Always,” she stated.

Interestingly, Karisma revealed she almost did not join Brown. In the same interview, she admitted her initial reaction to the project was a definite no. Recalling that moment, the actress shared that she had firmly rejected the offer at first. “I don’t act much. I lead my own life. I’m in my own race, at my own pace, in my own lane. I’m not part of any rat race.” According to Karisma, the makers kept insisting that she hear the script, but she was reluctant. At the time, she was not interested in travelling to another city for nearly 50 days of shooting. However, everything changed once she finally listened to the story.

Karisma instantly felt the project was special and believed it was the perfect opportunity to return to film sets.”It was great fun, but it was also very challenging, and I enjoyed that balance,” she explained. Talking about the role, Karisma admitted that portraying a broken and emotionally scarred character pushed her out of her comfort zone.
Brown stars Karisma Kapoor alongside Jisshu Sengupta, Surya Sharma, Soni Razdan, and Helen. The crime drama features a strong ensemble cast and is all set to premiere on June 5.
