A new campaign by Yash Raj Films and JioHotstar brought together cinema and cricket in a fresh way ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
The campaign featured actors Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh, who appeared in a promotional video linked to their upcoming film Alpha. The video focused on women’s cricket and aimed to highlight equal recognition for women athletes.
In the campaign, both actresses were seen in a setup where they were asked about their sporting inspirations. They first appeared to refer to the men’s cricket team, but later shifted the focus and named women cricketers as their inspiration.
The video then took a key turn when the idea of “Indian Women’s Cricket Team” was discussed. Alia Bhatt pointed out that the team should simply be called the “Indian Cricket Team,” without separating identity based on gender.
The message in the campaign highlighted equality in sports and encouraged equal respect for women cricketers.
The promotional video was released ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, which will stream on JioHotstar and air on Star Sports. The campaign quickly gained attention online for its strong social message.
The film also includes Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor, while Hrithik Roshan is expected to make a special appearance as spy Kabir.
Alpha is also starring Sharvari together with Alia Bhatt, you know. It features Bobby Deol playing the villain part and Anil Kapoor in a pivotal role kind of a turning point for the story.
Directed by Shiv Rawail who was behind the global hit series The Railway Men, Alpha feels like it’s going to be something else.
Alpha is scheduled for release on July 3 and is among the most awaited Bollywood films of the year.
