First World Yogasana Championship begins, PM Modi tells global vision of yoga

Tezzbuzz Desk – The first World Yogasana Championship was inaugurated grandly in Ahmedabad on Thursday. On this historic occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing virtually, welcomed the players from all over the world and described it as an important step towards establishing Yoga as a global sport.

The Prime Minister said that a new chapter is being added to the history of sports from the land of Ahmedabad. Congratulating the participants from different countries, he said that India’s ancient yoga tradition is now creating a new identity at the global level. He also mentioned that Ahmedabad is a UNESCO World Heritage City and organizing this international competition in such a historical city is a matter of pride for the entire country.

Prime Minister Modi said that after a few days, International Yoga Day will be celebrated on 21st June. At such a time, organizing the World Yogasana Championship is an important initiative in the field of health and wellness. He said that about a decade ago, India had proposed International Yoga Day in the United Nations, which got the support of most of the countries of the world. Today yoga has become a part of the lifestyle of crores of people.

He said that yoga is not just a physical exercise but a medium to make life balanced and healthy. Now Yoga is going to get a new identity as a competitive sport through Yogasana Championship. The Prime Minister expressed confidence that in future Yogasana can also find its place in international sports competitions and multi-sport events.

In his address, the Prime Minister also mentioned the economic and social impacts of Yoga. He said that with every big game a complete ecosystem develops, which creates employment and new opportunities. The expansion of Yogasana Sports will create new opportunities for players, coaches, sports scientists, researchers and people associated with event management.

Prime Minister Modi also mentioned the theme of this year’s International Yoga Day as ‘Yoga for Healthy Aging’. He said that in today’s busy life, people are looking for ways to stay healthy and active for a long time, and yoga is one of the most effective mediums for this.

He said that yoga helps in keeping both body and mind healthy. It is not only a means of preventing diseases, but is also the best way to adopt a healthy lifestyle at low cost. In this context, while giving a message to the people, he said that “Yoga every day will cure all diseases.”

The first World Yogasana Championship is being considered a big step towards the global expansion of yoga. Players from many countries are participating in this event and it is being considered an important initiative towards giving international recognition to Yoga as a sport.
