Peshawar. The internal discord in Pakistan’s Taarik-e-Insaf has come to the fore. Many angry MLAs of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have launched a scathing attack on the party leadership, accusing them of not making effective efforts for the release of jailed founder Imran Khan.
MLAs held emergency meeting
According to Dawn report, the MLAs, upset over not getting posts in the recent cabinet expansion, held an emergency meeting in Peshawar and sent a letter to party president Barrister Gohar Ali. The letter said that there is deep concern among party workers and supporters regarding the release of Imran Khan and his health.
What were the allegations against the party leadership?
The MLAs alleged that the movement for the release of Imran Khan has been limited to mere rhetoric, limited protests and symbolic activities. He demanded the leadership to formulate a new strategy that would be more effective, organized and result-oriented.
Questions raised on the functioning of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government
The letter also raised serious questions on the functioning of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government. The MLAs alleged corruption, nepotism, alleged unfair distribution of resources and taking decisions without consulting elected representatives. He demanded implementation of transparency, merit-based system and institutional discipline in administration.
What did the angry leaders demand?
The angry leaders clarified that they are fully committed to the ideology of Imran Khan and the vision of the party and are not part of the agenda of any group or individual. He also demanded arrangements for effective legal aid and support for the jailed party leaders and workers including Imran Khan and their families.
MLA dissatisfied with not getting a place in the cabinet
According to the report, about 20 MLAs are dissatisfied with not getting a place in the cabinet. These MLAs boycotted the parliamentary meeting called by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and instead came to protest outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. Meanwhile, party president Barrister Gohar Ali has not yet given a public reaction on this internal protest. It is being told that these days he is busy in the party’s election campaign in Pakistan-occupied Gilgit-Baltistan.
