Delhi: Mattress businessman became an angel in the Malviya Nagar fire, saved the lives of 8 people by spreading mattresses and quilts.

New Delhi, June 4. After a fire broke out in a multi-storey hotel in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar on Wednesday morning, when there was widespread chaos and people trapped in the hotel were pleading for help, a mattress businessman in front of the hotel came forward as an angel. Without any delay, he threw his mattresses and quilts worth about Rs 2 lakh on the road, which saved the lives of many people.

Businessmen arrived as soon as they got information about the fire.

As soon as the information about the fire in the hotel was received, Riyazuddin Mansoori reached the spot with his employees and prepared a temporary protective shield by taking out about 20 to 25 quilts and mattresses and spreading them outside the hotel. This helped the people trapped in the building to jump out safely.

Riyazuddin told that he first spread mattresses and quilts. The advantage of this was that eight people were saved safely before the fire brigade personnel arrived. However, he and his son Arman also suffered injuries during the rescue operation.

21 people died due to fire in hotel

It is noteworthy that 21 people, including 11 foreign nationals, died in the fire that broke out in the ‘Flourish Stay’ hotel located in the densely populated Hauz Rani area. According to officials, 19 of the 35 injured people are being treated in various hospitals in Delhi and their condition is critical.

People were pleading for help by breaking glass.

Officials said the hotel was mainly used to accommodate patients and their families coming for treatment at the nearby Max Hospital. According to eyewitnesses, as the fire spread rapidly, many people were crying for help by breaking the windows.

Eight people’s lives saved because of mattresses

The family, which has been running a mattress shop in front of the hotel for nearly four decades, said that many mattresses and quilts were kept on top of each other to protect people from injuries. Arman said that about eight people jumped on them and escaped safely. Only a few people suffered minor injuries.

The woman trapped in the hotel also jumped from the third floor with her child.

Eyewitnesses said that there was an atmosphere of chaos as the building was filled with smoke. He said a woman jumped from the third floor with her child in her lap while others were searching for an exit. At such times, mattresses and quilts became a support for many people.

It is my duty to help the needy people – Riyazuddin

Riyazuddin said, ‘I suffered a loss of about Rs 2 lakh. We also gave sheets to take out the dead and injured. Also given quilt covers. Whatever material we had, we gave it all as humanity. Humanity is above Hindu-Muslim. We are all Indians. It was my duty to help the needy people.

If the fire was not controlled in time, the shop could have been affected.

At the same time, Arman said that if the fire was not controlled in time, his shop could also have got affected by it. He said emergency services reached the spot quickly and assisted in the rescue operation. Everyone arrived on time and helped us a lot.
