JEE Advanced data leak claims are completely wrong, IIT Roorkee refutes social media rumors
New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Roorkee on Friday said claims of data of lakhs of JEE (Advanced) candidates being made public and their privacy being violated are “misleading and factually incorrect”. The institute said that the problem related to ‘cloud storage configuration’ was temporary and did not lead to the leak of any sensitive information. IIT Roorkee, which conducted the exams as the nodal body this year, said the information being circulated on social media “does not accurately portray what actually happened” and alleged that attempts were being made to spread misinformation. JEE (Advanced) examination is the gateway for admission to undergraduate courses in the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and many other premier engineering institutes across the country.
Called the claims misleading and false
IIT Roorkee, in a post on The information circulating on social media is misleading and does not accurately depict what actually happened. Efforts are being made to spread misinformation.
“No impact on results and credentials of students”
According to the institute, some technical improvements were made on June 2 on an expedited basis to assist candidates facing difficulty in accessing the admit card data and to ensure smooth operation of the registration process. The statement said that these technical improvements resulted in an error in a component of ‘cloud storage’, which was identified and reported by ethical hacker Rylen Anil. “Ethical hacker Rylen Anil discovered the flaw and said he could access the relevant database,” the institute said. The issue was resolved immediately and access to the data was restricted.”
The institute had said on Tuesday night that the stored data was in ‘read-only’ mode, so there is no possibility of any change in the records. The institute said that “no sensitive information was leaked” and the incident had “no impact on the examination results, including marks, rank and category of the candidates”.
Counseling and admission process will be completely safe
Reaffirming its commitment to the examination process, IIT Roorkee said that it is fully committed to maintaining the integrity, security and transparency of the JEE (Advanced) and JOSHA counseling processes. “The JEE (Advanced) team looks forward to supporting every candidate through a smooth and secure admission process to IITs and IISc,” it said. Earlier on Tuesday, IIT-Roorkee had confirmed that there was a technical issue related to ‘cloud storage configuration’ in the result portal of JEE (Advanced) 2026.
