On World Environment Day, Delhi got the gift of 18 ‘NaMo Oxygen Parks’, CM Rekha Gupta inaugurated it.
On the occasion of World Environment Day, Delhi government took a big step towards increasing green area in the capital. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav launched 18 NaMo Oxygen Parks in Maidangarhi area of South Delhi. On this occasion, both the leaders gave the message of environmental protection by planting trees. The program also presented several important initiatives to increase green cover, improve air quality and encourage biodiversity in the capital. Many important documents including ‘Delhi’s Action Plan 2026-27 to 2036-37’ and ‘Delhi Bird Atlas’ were released during the ceremony. These documents aim to advance strategies related to environmental protection, green development and bird conservation in the capital.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the government is making continuous efforts to make Delhi clean, green and environment-friendly. Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav, while emphasizing the important role of public participation in environmental protection, called for planting as many trees as possible and taking care of them. “The Delhi government has presented a green budget this year, in which 21 percent of the total budget has been earmarked for green projects.” He said that environmental protection, expansion of green area and pollution control have been included in the priorities of the government. Delhi government has set a target of planting 15 lakh saplings for the year 2026-27. Under this, a large-scale plantation campaign will be conducted in various areas of the capital. The aim of the government is not only to plant trees but also to ensure their conservation and long-term maintenance.
He said that expansion of green area is extremely necessary amidst the challenges of increasing urbanization and pollution. In this direction, Namo Oxygen Park, Urban Forest, Green Corridors and other environmental projects are being taken forward. The Chief Minister also appealed to the citizens to participate in the tree plantation campaign and said that environmental protection is not only the responsibility of the government but is the common responsibility of every person in the society.

The Chief Minister said, “We not only want to plant trees, but are also paying full attention to saving them.” He said that all government departments have been instructed to develop green buildings and give priority to the protection of trees. Increasing green cover in the capital can significantly help in reducing air pollution. According to him, expansion of trees and green cover in urban areas plays an important role in maintaining environmental balance as well as providing a better and cleaner environment to the people.
The Chief Minister said that the massive tree plantation drive launched on the occasion of World Environment Day and the inauguration of 18 NaMo Oxygen Parks is part of the “Clean, Green and Healthy Delhi Mission”. He talked about making it a comprehensive campaign involving public participation. He also appealed to the citizens, social organizations and various institutions for active participation in this campaign and said that environmental protection will be successful only when it is made a people’s movement instead of a government program.
The Chief Minister said that the aim of the government is not only to do development work but also to connect environmental protection with the mainstream of development. He said that in this direction, a large scale tree plantation campaign is being carried out and 18 Namo Oxygen Parks have been inaugurated. Rekha Gupta said, “On World Environment Day, we are making the Clean, Green and Healthy Delhi Mission a mass campaign with a massive tree plantation drive and the inauguration of 18 NaMo Oxygen Parks.” Amidst the challenges of increasing pollution and urbanization in the city, it is very important to increase the green cover.
All Delhiites join Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign
He appealed to the people of Delhi to join the ‘One Tree in the Name of Mother’ campaign and plant at least one tree. In her video message, the Chief Minister said, “I urge all Delhiites to join the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign and plant a sapling. Let us together make Delhi cleaner, greener and healthier for the coming generations.” She said that the government had earlier announced a plan to build 100 oxygen parks, under which now the work on 18 NaMo oxygen parks has started. These parks will help in increasing green cover in the capital and maintaining environmental balance.
The Chief Minister said that this year a target has been set to plant 15 lakh saplings in Delhi. The government will provide saplings and will also mark the place, but active participation of citizens will be necessary in this campaign. He also informed that the government is already working on all issues related to pollution control and these efforts will be further intensified in future. He also mentioned the plan of ‘wall-to-wall carpeting’ (paving the entire road) to reduce road dust.
Delhi government will build 100 ‘Oxygen Parks’
A large-scale green campaign has been announced to deal with the increasing pollution in the capital. Last month, on May 22, he started this initiative by laying the foundation stone of the first Oxygen Park on 3 acres of land in Mukhmelpur village of Burari. The Chief Minister had said that this project is part of a series of 100 oxygen parks to be developed in the capital. He had claimed that Delhi has reached a “gas chamber” like situation in the last few years, and now there is a need to take concrete steps to deal with this problem.
According to the government plan, dense and fruitful trees will be planted in these oxygen parks, which will not only increase the green cover but will also provide natural shelter to the birds. Along with this, these areas will help in increasing the oxygen level in the city and improving the environmental balance. The Chief Minister had also informed that the Delhi government is working with the target of planting more than 70 lakh trees and bushes this year. He said that for the last one year, the government has been making continuous efforts towards pollution control and green development.
