jakarta, 5 June. Hariharan Amsakarunan and MR Arjun also lost in the men’s doubles quarterfinals of the Indonesia Open here on Friday. With this the Indian challenge in the BWF Tour Super 1000 tournament ended.
The Hariharan-Arjun pair, ranked 30th in the world ranking, could not even challenge former world number one Malaysian Goh J Fei and Noor Izzuddin in the eighth match of the day played on court number two of Istora Senayan and lost 12-21, 10-21 in just 32 minutes.
Seventh seeds Goh Fei and Izzuddin had taken a four-point lead at the break in the first game, however Hariharan and Arjun fought back and narrowed the gap to 10-11. But the seeded Malaysian team picked up the pace and won the first game easily. The second game was also one-sided from beginning to end. This was the first match between the two teams on the BWF Tour.

With this defeat, the wonderful journey of the Indian pair in the tournament ended. Arjun-Hariharan started their campaign with an impressive win over Malaysia’s Tan Wee Kiong (Rio 2016 Olympic silver medalist) and Noor Mohd Azrin Ayub. After this, they defeated another better ranked Malaysian team – Aaron Tai and Kang Khai Jing to reach the quarter-finals.
It is noteworthy that while PV Sindhu and Ayush Shetty had to face defeat in the pre-quarterfinals on Thursday, the challenge of HS Prannoy, Lakshya Sen Kidambi Srikanth, Malvika Bansod and Unnati Hooda had already ended.
On the other hand, in the men’s doubles title, strong contenders Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty had to withdraw in the first round due to Satwik’s shoulder problem. Satwik-Chirag became champions at the Singapore Open last week, ending the title drought of two years.
