PM Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of development projects worth Rs 18,800 crore in Surat.
Surat, 5 June. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday evening inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of various development projects worth about Rs 18,800 crore in Surat, his home state Gujarat. Considered to be one of the largest infrastructure investment programs undertaken in the city in recent years, the projects aim to strengthen transport, industrial infrastructure, power distribution, health services and urban development.

Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway will increase connectivity and logistics capacity.
Through these projects, the target has been set to further strengthen Surat as a major economic and industrial center of Gujarat. According to information released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the Prime Minister dedicated important packages of the eight-lane access controlled Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway to the nation. These projects will improve high-speed connectivity between Gujarat and Maharashtra and make the logistics network in Western India more efficient.
Road connectivity will be strengthened
The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone of the project to develop important stretches of National Highway-56 into four lanes. This project will play an important role in improving road connectivity in tribal areas and facilitating access to the Statue of Unity Corridor.
Expansion of power and industrial infrastructure
The Prime Minister inaugurated and dedicated to the nation several infrastructure projects in the industrial and utility sectors. These include power transmission expansion systems aimed at strengthening Gujarat’s interstate power evacuation capacity under the National Grid Reform Programme.
Health facilities got a big boost
The health infrastructure in Surat has also been greatly strengthened. The Prime Minister inaugurated the 200-bed Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospital. The hospital will provide emergency and trauma care, diagnostic services and various specialist medical facilities to the workers and their families.
Review of Industrial and Urban Development Projects
The Prime Minister also reviewed and launched several projects related to petroleum, chemical and petrochemical investment sectors and industrial estates in the Surat region. These initiatives aim to increase industrial operational efficiency and improve environmental compliance systems.
Visited Hazira Industrial Area
During his visit, the Prime Minister also reviewed the ongoing industrial activities in Hazira area of Surat district. Hazira is an important industrial and defense manufacturing center of the country, where large-scale engineering and production units operate. It has emerged as a strategic hub of India’s manufacturing ecosystem in the field of heavy engineering and defense production.
Part of investment program of over Rs 20,000 crore
The Prime Minister’s visit is part of the broader development programs of Gujarat and the Union Territories, which also includes infrastructure projects in Daman and Lakshadweep. The total investment commitments across various sectors exceed Rs 20,000 crore. These projects launched in Surat are expected to lead to long-term improvements in urban mobility, industrial production, reliability of power supply and access to health services. With this, Surat’s position will be further strengthened as a major center of India’s Western Economic Corridor.
