Before these resignations, former president of BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit K. Annamalai had also decided to separate from the organization. Regarding his decision, Annamalai said that his priority has always been to work among the people. He shared information about the initiative called ‘Annamalai Makkal Iyakkam’ (AMI) through social media platform X. According to him, this campaign is getting good support from the people in the initial phase itself.

Annamalai said that till now more than three thousand volunteers have registered to join this new movement. Expressing his gratitude to the supporters, he said that his team will contact all the volunteers in the coming days and will move towards strengthening the organization.

His decision to break away from the BJP and start a mass movement indicates that he is working towards creating his own independent political identity in the state and creating a separate support base.
