S will take Nepal’s ‘class’ in Delhi today. Heat will increase on anti-India statements of Jaishankar…Balen Shah

Diplomatic bitterness is clearly visible these days in the age-old ‘Roti-Beti’ relationship between India and Nepal. The continuous anti-India statements of Nepal’s new ‘Gen Z’ government and its Prime Minister Balendra Shah alias Balen Shah have made New Delhi uneasy. Amidst this tension, a very important and high-profile meeting is going to be held in the country’s capital Delhi today i.e. on Saturday. Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal has suddenly reached India on his special request, where India’s Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will hold bilateral talks with him. It is believed that in this meeting, Jaishankar will explain to Nepal in a very strict and diplomatic manner that unnecessary statements will only spoil the relations between the two countries, nothing will be achieved.

After all, which statements of Balen Shah have enraged India?

Nepal’s Prime Minister Balen Shah had recently made some comments which created a stir in Indian diplomatic circles. He had claimed that Nepal has also occupied some land of India. Not only this, Balen Shah had advocated the intervention of a third party (International Mediator) to resolve the ongoing border dispute between India and Nepal. Along with this, the Nepal government had also raised objection to the conduct of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra by India via Lipulekh. The Indian leadership has been deeply hurt by this aggressive and immature stance of Nepal.

There is a huge lack of experience and maturity in the new government.

The Indian Foreign Ministry and diplomatic experts believe that the new government of Nepal is severely lacking in political experience and diplomatic maturity. Despite this, India is handling this entire matter with utmost patience and understanding. Due to Nepal’s strategic location, its open border with India and to stop the ever-increasing Chinese influence there, it is very important for India to maintain cordial relations with Nepal. This is the reason why instead of expressing displeasure, India is working on a policy of working together with Nepal by making it a development partner.

Why is Nepali Foreign Minister coming suddenly after Rabi Lamichhane’s visit to Delhi?

Sources claim that this visit of Nepali Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal to India has been decided suddenly and on his own request. Just before this, Rabi Lamichhane, President of Nepal’s ruling party ‘Rashtriya Swatantra Party’ had also visited India. During his visit, Lamichhane met BJP President, Prime Minister and External Affairs Minister Jaishankar. It is being speculated that Lamichhane was well explained to Delhi about the sensitivity and importance of India-Nepal relations, after which, as soon as he returned to Kathmandu, he hastily sent his Foreign Minister to Delhi to balance the relations.

Border disputes will be resolved through bilateral mechanism, not through rhetoric.

In this strategic meeting to be held at Hyderabad House, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar will completely clarify India’s stand in front of the Nepali Foreign Minister. According to Foreign Ministry officials, it will be explained to Nepal that whatever one or two disputed issues related to the border are there, they will not be resolved by making statements in the media. For this, a strong bilateral mechanism is already established between the two countries. As far as the claims of land possession are concerned, it is a confusion arising due to geographical changes and the bend in the flow of the Gandak river, which is being resolved only by looking at the historical documents of both the parties.
