The pair shined together, but some films were flops – know the box office report
New Delhi. Many couples have come and gone in Bollywood, but the pairing of Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai has always been considered special by the audience. Even in reel life, this pair has won the hearts of the audience with their chemistry by working together in many films. Both of them worked in films of different genres, including romance, drama, thriller and period films.
Their first film together was ‘Dhai Akshar Prem Ke’ (2000), which was a romantic drama. Although the film was average at the box office, the duo caught the audience’s attention on screen for the first time. After this, ‘Kuch Na Kaho’ came in 2003, in which their chemistry was shown in a better way.
After this, both of them also worked together in the period drama ‘Umrao Jaan’, in which Aishwarya played the lead role and Abhishek was seen in the role of a Nawab. The film received mixed reviews from critics but its grandeur and music were much talked about.
One of the biggest hits of these two was ‘Dhoom 2’ (2006). In this action-thriller film, Aishwarya Rai was seen in the role of a cunning and glamorous thief, while Abhishek Bachchan played police officer Jai Dixit. This film was included in the superhit films of that time and did a great business of about Rs 150 crore.
After this came ‘Sarkar Raj’ (2008), in which Abhishek, Aishwarya and Amitabh Bachchan worked together. It was a political drama film that performed well at the box office and grossed approximately Rs 59.5 crore.
This pair was also seen in Mani Ratnam’s film ‘Raavan’ (2010). The film was based on the modern Ramayana and starred Abhishek Bachchan in the negative role, while Aishwarya played the lead role. The performance of the film was average but its story and cinematography were discussed a lot.
Similarly, Mani Ratnam’s film ‘Guru’ (2007) also got a lot of success, which was inspired by the life of Dhirubhai Ambani. The film made a business of approximately Rs 83.67 crore and is counted among the best films of both the actors.
Apart from this, in ‘Bunty Aur Babli’ (2005), Aishwarya danced in a special song ‘Kajrare’, while Abhishek and Rani Mukherjee were in the lead roles. This song became very popular at that time and is remembered even today.
Overall, the pairing of Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai has given many memorable films to Bollywood. While some films were average, films like ‘Dhoom 2’ and ‘Guru’ achieved tremendous success at the box office and gave the pair a special place in the hearts of the audience.
