Cyber attack on Cancer Hospital of Chandrapur, data locked, hackers demanded ransom of Rs 75 lakh
Chandrapur. A serious cyber attack has come to light on the cancer hospital of Cancer Care Foundation located in Chandrapur city of Maharashtra. Hackers intruded into the main server of the hospital and locked important data and demanded a ransom of around Rs 75 lakh in exchange for unlocking it. Ramnagar police is busy investigating the case.
On the morning of June 1, the IT department of the hospital detected a technical glitch in the server. During initial investigation, a threatening ransomware message was found on the server. Further investigation revealed that unknown hackers had taken control of the entire digital system of the hospital. The hackers have demanded 1.23456 Bitcoins, which is equivalent to approximately Rs 75 lakh as per the current market price. He threatened that the “key” to unlock the data would be given only after receiving this amount, otherwise the entire data could be permanently destroyed. Due to this cyber attack, the hospital information management system of the hospital has come to a complete standstill. This has affected patients’ medical history, treatment records and administrative work, posing a serious crisis to the hospital management.
In this matter, a case has been registered against unknown cyber criminals in the local Ramnagar police station. The Cyber Department of Chandrapur Police is thoroughly investigating this incident and investigating the accused. This incident has come as a warning to health institutions amid increasing cyber crimes in the digital age. Experts say such important institutions need to adopt more robust cyber security measures to protect their data and servers.
