E85 fuel launched in India, new fuel will be available 20 rupees cheaper than petrol
Knews Desk- Taking a big step towards clean and cheap fuel, India has launched E85 fuel. On the occasion of World Environment Day, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri launched it in Delhi. E85 is a special fuel, which contains a mixture of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent petrol. Its price has been kept about Rs 20 per liter less than the existing E20 petrol.
The government believes that E85 fuel will help in reducing the country’s dependence on oil imports as well as increasing the income of farmers. Ethanol is mainly prepared from sugarcane and other agricultural products, so its use is also expected to directly benefit the agriculture sector.
However, E85 fuel cannot be used in all vehicles. It is only suitable for flex-fuel vehicles (FFVs), which are specifically designed to run on high ethanol blend fuels. Recently, Maruti Suzuki WagonR Flex-Fuel and Hero MotoCorp’s Flex-Fuel Bikes have been launched as India’s first flex-fuel car.
The government plans to increase the availability of E85 fuel across the country in the coming time. In the initial phase, its sale will start at select petrol pumps, while the target is to expand it to about 500 fuel stations by December 2026 and 5,000 by the end of 2027. According to experts, E85 fuel is not only a better option for the environment, but it can also significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The government hopes that this fuel will play an important role in strengthening India’s energy security in the coming years.
