EPF interest rate remains at 8.25%, crores of subscribers waiting for credit

Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has maintained the interest rate on EPF at 8.25 percent for the financial year 2025-26. However, even after this decision, crores of subscribers are waiting for interest credit in their accounts. This interest rate was approved by the Central Board of Trustees (CBT) in March 2026. But even after more than two months have passed, many account holders have yet to see the interest amount reflected in their EPF passbook.

According to the Ministry of Labor and Employment, the CBT had recommended 8.25 percent annual interest rate on EPF deposits for the financial year 2025-26. This rate has been kept stable as compared to before. After the interest is credited, this amount is automatically added to the EPF balance of the members and updated in their passbook.

Subscribers can check the status of interest credit in their account through several official means.

EPF balance can be viewed through UMANG app. Information can be obtained by logging into EPFO member e-seva portal. Balance can be checked by giving a missed call to 9966044425 from the registered mobile number. Information can also be obtained through SMS, the format is: UAN EPFOHO ENG And it has to be sent to 7738299899.

EPFO has advised that all members should keep their Universal Account Number (UAN) active and link it with Aadhaar, PAN and bank account. This prevents delay in interest credit and other services.

EPFO is now working on its digital transformation project EPFO 3.0, which aims to make services faster and easier.

Under this upgrade, the process of PF withdrawal and transfer can become quite simple in future. Members will be able to check their eligible balance on the UMANG app, make secure transfers via QR Code and receive funds directly through UPI. As per the proposal, withdrawals up to Rs 5 lakh can be processed instantly without employer approval, making the entire process faster and convenient.
