Egg Attack on TMC Continues: Madan Mitra’s Car Targeted in Fresh Bengal Protest, Political Tensions Escalate
A fresh controversy has erupted in West Bengal after the car of Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Madan Mitra was allegedly targeted by protesters in North 24 Parganas district. The incident marks the latest in a series of attacks on TMC leaders following the party’s defeat in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections.
The incident took place on Saturday night in Ariadaha under North 24 Parganas district. According to reports, a group of people surrounded the vehicle and hurled eggs at it while shouting slogans. Videos circulating on social media show several individuals running toward the car, throwing eggs and banging on the windows before the vehicle sped away.
Madan Mitra Was Not Inside the Vehicle
Madan Mitra later clarified that he was not present inside the car when the incident occurred. The senior TMC leader described the attack as a planned attempt to create political unrest in the area.
Although the authenticity of the viral videos has not been independently verified, the footage has triggered a fresh political debate in the state.
Political Temperature Rises in West Bengal
The attack comes amid heightened political tensions in West Bengal after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) defeated the TMC in the 2026 Assembly elections, ending the party’s long rule in the state.
Since the election results, several TMC leaders have reportedly faced public protests and hostile demonstrations in different districts.
Political observers believe the incidents reflect the growing friction between rival political camps and lingering resentment from the fiercely contested election campaign.
BJP Responds to the Incident
Reacting to the attack, BJP MP Raju Bista said his party does not support violence and urged people to follow democratic methods of protest.
According to Bista, public anger against the previous TMC government has been visible in several parts of the state. However, he stressed that violence is not the appropriate way to express dissatisfaction.
He also said that any complaints regarding law and order should be addressed through the police and legal system.
Series of Egging Incidents Against TMC Leaders
The incident involving Madan Mitra is not the first such case reported in recent weeks.
Saugata Roy Targeted
On May 28, senior TMC leader and Lok Sabha MP Saugata Roy was reportedly targeted with eggs outside Nimta Police Station in North 24 Parganas.
Abhishek Banerjee Faces Protest
A few days later, TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee faced a similar protest in Sonarpur, South 24 Parganas.
During his visit to meet families allegedly affected by post-poll violence, a crowd reportedly breached security barriers, surrounded him and threw raw eggs. Reports also claimed that objects including bricks were hurled during the chaos.
The incident drew widespread attention and intensified concerns over political unrest in the state.
Growing Concerns Over Post-Poll Tensions
The repeated targeting of TMC leaders has raised concerns about the political atmosphere in West Bengal following the Assembly elections.
Political analysts say the incidents highlight the deep divisions that continue to exist after the change in government. Calls for maintaining peace and democratic conduct have been made by leaders across party lines.
Meanwhile, security arrangements for prominent political figures are expected to be reviewed as authorities monitor the evolving situation.
What Happens Next?
Police have not yet released detailed findings regarding the latest incident involving Madan Mitra’s vehicle. Investigations are expected to determine the identities of those involved and whether the attack was spontaneous or organised.
As West Bengal navigates a new political landscape, the series of protests against TMC leaders continues to keep the state’s political temperature high.
