‘Had there been rebellion against the high command, he would not have been the CM’, Ashok Gehlot breaks silence on 2022 controversy

Tezzbuzz Desk – Once again the rhetoric regarding old political developments has intensified in Rajasthan Congress. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has openly expressed his views regarding the incident of 25 September 2022 and the Manesar episode. He said that the events that took place at that time were misrepresented and described as a rebellion against the Congress leadership, whereas the reality was something else.

While talking to the media in Jaipur, Gehlot said that if he had rebelled against the party leadership, could he have remained the Chief Minister even then? He said that it is not appropriate to question his loyalty towards the Congress leadership.

‘The MLAs’ protest was in the name of the pilot’

Gehlot claimed that the political developments that took place in September 2022 were not against the Congress high command, but were the reaction of the MLAs to the names running for the post of Chief Minister at that time. He said that many MLAs were angry with the circumstances which had earlier created a crisis within the party.

He said that at that time a large number of MLAs had offered to resign and his opinion was that one of the party’s sitting MLAs should be given a chance for the post of Chief Minister.

Advice given to Sachin Pilot

Taking the name of Sachin Pilot, the former Chief Minister said that dialogue and introspection are necessary in politics. He said that every leader should assess the circumstances with time and if any mistake has been made, he should not hesitate to accept it.

Gehlot also said that he is not personally against Sachin Pilot and has affection for him for a long time. However, according to him, differences remained between the two leaders regarding many political incidents.

Apologized to Sonia Gandhi

Gehlot told that at that time the proposal could not be passed in the legislature party meeting, for which he himself took the responsibility. He said that being a responsible leader, he had met Sonia Gandhi and apologized.

According to him, the circumstances at that time were very complex and many incidents happened suddenly, due to which the prescribed process could not be completed.

‘I helped the pilot’

The former Chief Minister also claimed that he had supported Sachin Pilot in making him Union Minister during the UPA government. Gehlot said that he always tried to promote young leaders, but he regretted that this cooperation was never mentioned publicly.

This statement has once again become the center of political discussions amid the long-running Gehlot-Pilot tussle in Rajasthan Congress. All eyes are on what stance the Congress leadership takes on this issue in the coming times.
