Big revelation on Suryakumar Yadav! Former selector told the real reason behind the scenes
New Delhi . After the change in captaincy in Indian cricket, if any player is being discussed the most then it is Suryakumar Yadav. After being removed from the captaincy of the Indian T20 team and not getting a place in any of the T20 squads announced for Ireland, England and Asian Games, it was believed that the selectors have decided to move on from him. But now former chief selector of Team India, MSK Prasad has given a statement which has given a new direction to this entire issue.
MSK Prasad claims that Suryakumar Yadav has not been dropped from the team, but has been rested. According to him, the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the selection committee have given Suryakumar a break for some time, like Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya, so that he can return to the team refreshed.
Speaking to news agency PTI, Prasad said that no board or selection committee excludes the World Cup-winning captain from the next international match. He said that Suryakumar Yadav is a very important player of Indian cricket and his quality cannot be questioned. According to him, it would not be right to completely ignore such a big player just on the basis of poor form.
The former selector said that Suryakumar, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah have been among the top players in the ICC rankings for a long time. Bumrah is still counted among the number-1 bowlers in the world. In such a situation, giving rest to these players from time to time can be a part of the team management’s strategy. He expressed confidence that all three players will soon be seen again in the Indian team.
However, on the other hand, the decision of the selectors has also raised many questions. Suryakumar Yadav’s name is not included in the T20 teams of Ireland tour, England tour and 2026 Asian Games announced by BCCI. Interestingly, Jasprit Bumrah has been included in the Asian Games team, while Suryakumar is completely out. For this reason, many cricket experts are considering this not just as a matter of rest but a major selection decision.
Suryakumar Yadav’s recent form has also been a topic of discussion. His performance in IPL 2026 did not live up to expectations and he struggled to score runs consistently. It is believed that this reason could be the main reason behind the selectors’ decision. At the same time, his increasing age can also affect his future plans. 35 year old Suryakumar now faces a strong challenge from young players.
Meanwhile, the selectors have handed over the command of the T20 team to Shreyas Iyer. Iyer has been given important responsibility from the point of view of preparing the future team. However, considering Suryakumar’s experience and achievements, the possibility of his comeback cannot be completely ruled out.
The biggest question in Indian cricket at the moment is whether Suryakumar Yadav is really just on rest or is this the beginning of a new era in the Indian T20 team. His performance in the coming months and the strategy of the selectors will answer this question.
