West Bengal Govt Restores General Consent To CBI: Subhendu Government of Bengal gave exemption to CBI, no permission is required for investigation

New Delhi. Taking a big step, the Subhendu Adhikari-led BJP government in West Bengal has decided to give complete freedom to the CBI to investigate. Under this, CBI will not need to take permission from the government to investigate any case. However, CBI has got this exemption to investigate cases related to central employees and Central Public Undertakings (PSU) employees posted in the state. At the same time, CBI will have to take written permission to investigate corruption cases related to state government employees.

According to the notification issued by the state government, this power has been given to CBI under Section 6 of the Delhi Special Police Establishment (DSPE) Act, 1946, which will come into effect with immediate effect. Let us tell you that in the year 2018, Mamata Banerjee had made it mandatory for CBI to take permission from the state government before starting the investigation of any case. Now the new government has reversed the decision of the previous government. After Mamata Banerjee’s order, CBI has to take separate permission from the state government to investigate every case, but now CBI has got consensus to investigate some cases. This decision of the government will speed up the investigation of corruption related cases. However, separate arrangements will now be applicable for matters related to central and state employees.

Apart from this, the West Bengal Government, taking another major decision, has dissolved the Kolkata Municipal Corporation with immediate effect and has appointed the Municipal Commissioner as Administrator for six months or till the newly elected councilors take charge, whichever is earlier.
