Weather alert of June 9: Heavy rain in South, scorching heat in North India
New Delhi: On June 9, the weather patterns will be different in different areas across the country. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the south-west monsoon is continuously advancing and has reached parts of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Due to its effect, there is a possibility of heavy rain in South India and North-Eastern states, while people in many areas of North-West and Central India may have to face severe heat and heat wave.
Weather expected to remain dry in North India
Talking about North India, the weather is expected to remain dry in most areas on Tuesday. There is a possibility of hot winds in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh and Western Uttar Pradesh. The maximum temperature in these areas can reach 40 degrees Celsius or above. Whereas in the hilly states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, there is a possibility of light rain, strong winds and hailstorm at some places. In the eastern parts of Rajasthan, there may be rain with thunder and strong winds, while in western Rajasthan, dust storm may increase the problems of the people.
Monsoon activities seem to be gradually becoming active in Central and Eastern India. Light to moderate rain along with thunderstorms and strong winds may continue in Chhattisgarh, East Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha region during the coming days. There is a possibility of rain and lightning at some places in Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha. The situation may be more severe in West Bengal and Sikkim, where heavy to very heavy rainfall has been predicted. The Meteorological Department has expressed the possibility of waterlogging in these areas and problems at the local level.
Monsoon seems to be fully active in South India. There is a possibility of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. An alert of extremely heavy rain has been issued especially for parts of Karnataka and Kerala. There is a possibility of heavy rain along with lightning and strong winds in Coastal Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka, Telangana and Rayalaseema regions. Good rainfall can also be recorded in many parts of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
Chance of rain in Northeast India
There is a possibility of rain continuing in Northeast India also. Extensive rainfall is expected in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of extremely heavy rain in Arunachal Pradesh. Due to continuous rain, there is a possibility of floods, landslides and increase in the water level of rivers. Apart from this, in view of the bad weather in the sea areas, fishermen have been advised not to go into the sea for the next few days.
