Chandigarh: Taking a unique initiative to strengthen the cleanliness system in the urban areas of the state, Punjab Local Government Minister Shri Harjot Singh Bains on Monday launched ‘Mission Clean Punjab’. Under this technology-based campaign, all Municipal Corporation and Municipal Council officers from top level to lower level will be present in the field from 7 am to 8 am every day.

Review of Mission Clean Punjab Campaign

Launching ‘Mission Clean Punjab’ at the department’s headquarters, Mr Bains reviewed the first day of the campaign with field officers through video call. He said that this campaign will be made successful through Artificial Intelligence (AI) equipped mobile application, surprise inspections and weekly progress reports related to cleanliness.

Shri Harjot Singh Bains said that under this campaign, each urban local body will be divided into zones of 10 km and the responsibility of each zone will be assigned to a monitoring officer (ADC, MC Commissioner, Joint Commissioner or EO). All officers will compulsorily visit the field every day from 7 am to 8 am. The Local Government Minister himself will also conduct surprise inspections across Punjab. Monitoring officers will submit daily reports and no work will be left to God.

He said, “This is not a one-time special event. It is a daily fight against filth. Every officer will be in the field from 7 am today. No excuse will be accepted. It is mandatory for all officers to have a smartphone with a functioning camera and internet connectivity.”

What did Harjot Singh Bains say?

Shri Harjot Singh Bains said, “Chief Minister Shri Bhagwant Singh Mann himself will monitor this campaign. Any officer can be called by the Chief Minister or me at any time. Today I am at the headquarters, but tomorrow I may be in Mohali, Amritsar, Bathinda, Fazilka or Jaito.”

The Local Government Minister said that the AI based app will monitor the real-time progress of this campaign. Officers will be available on video calls and surprise inspections can be conducted anywhere without any prior notice. He clarified that the objective of this campaign is to achieve visible and documented results.
