New Delhi – Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday launched a road and drainage project costing Rs 75.40 crore in A-Block of Wazirpur Industrial Area. Under this project, about 5.77 km long roads will be redeveloped, along with construction and improvement of 11.54 km long storm water drainage network. This will be helpful in reducing the problem of waterlogging and improving the basic facilities of the area. The project work will be carried out by Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC).

On this occasion, Wazirpur MLA Smt. Poonam Sharma and many other dignitaries were present. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that Wazirpur Industrial Area is one of the major industrial centers of Delhi, where thousands of industries and business establishments are functioning. Delhi government has started this ambitious project for a permanent solution to these problems.

The Chief Minister said that this project is not limited to only road and drain construction, but at present the biggest problem in industrial areas is the chaos caused by frequent road cutting and different works by different agencies. After the development of underground utility ducts, there will be no need to repeatedly dig roads for maintenance and expansion of various services, which will save time and resources.

The modern storm water drainage system to be developed under this project will improve rain water drainage and ensure a permanent solution to the problem of waterlogging. Delhi Government is committed to taking industrial development and environmental protection together. Under this approach, special importance has also been given to tree plantation and landscaping in the project, so that the area can be made more clean, green and pollution-free.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the aim of the Delhi government is to make all the industrial areas of the capital modern, clean, safe and equipped with world class facilities. Better roads, effective drainage systems and well-maintained infrastructure will not only increase the efficiency of industries but also create new opportunities for investment and employment. He expressed confidence that after the completion of the project, Wazirpur Industrial Area will be among the most modern and well-organized industrial areas of the capital and it will also be set as a model for other industrial areas.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister congratulated the officers, engineers and technical experts associated with the project and gave instructions to ensure timely and quality work. He said that the Delhi Government is continuously working on comprehensive upgradation of infrastructure to realize the vision of a developed Delhi and in the coming times, similar development projects will be given impetus in different areas of the capital.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that so far an amount of more than Rs 200 crore has been sanctioned for various development works in Wazirpur assembly constituency. Referring to the Chhath Ghat project, he said that a modern Chhath Ghat is being developed at a cost of about Rs 40 crore along the canal from Indralok Metro Station to Haiderpur. Additionally, construction of two important bridges in the area has also been included in the project, increasing both its cost and scope. He expressed confidence that this year on Chhath festival the devotees will get the facility of a clean, grand and well-maintained ghat.
