Vietnam’s lesser-known beach makes global top 100 for first time
The beach, located on the island of the same name in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage site, was the only Vietnamese destination to earn a place on the latest Beach 100 ranking released by U.S.-based organization Corona Beach 100 on June 8.
Unlike many of Vietnam’s better-known beach destinations, Soi Sim Beach remains largely off the tourist radar thanks to its secluded location and little tourism development.
The 2026 list features beaches from 22 countries and includes 27 newcomers making their debut in the annual ranking.
“We hope Beach 100 encourages people to reconnect with nature and discover the remarkable coastlines our planet has to offer,” a representative of the organization said.
The beaches were selected based on criteria including scenic beauty, ecological value, cultural heritage and nature-based experiences. The ranking also highlights the ecosystems that underpin the appeal of these destinations.

Soi Sim Island, spanning around 8.7 hectares, lies roughly 12 kilometers from Tuan Chau International Cruise Port. Visitors typically reach the island via a boat tour, which takes about 90 minutes.
The island is currently closed to tourists as it undergoes investment and infrastructure upgrades.
A key feature of Soi Sim is its relatively intact ecosystem.
The island is home to primary forest areas that contain numerous endemic plant species found in Ha Long Bay.
The Beach 100 list features well-known names from Southeast Asia such as Alegria, Cloud 9 and Nacpan in the Philippines, Koh Mak and Railay in Thailand, and Padar Island and Pink Beach in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia.
