Rs 370 Biryani Controversy: Pranit More, Himanshu Jangra summoned by NCW over Gurugram comedy show

New Delhi: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognizance of controversial remarks made during a Stand-up comedy event in Gurugram. The Commission acted after videos from the show went viral on social mediadrawing widespread criticism for allegedly normalizing sexual harassment and disrespecting women.

National Commission for Women (NCW) described the content as serious in nature and said it undermines women’s consent, dignity and bodily autonomy.

Haryana Police Asked For Swift Action

Following the incident, National Commission for Women (NCW) has written to the Director General of Police (DGP), Haryana, seeking prompt and time-bound action. The Commission has also requested a detailed Action Taken Report (ATR) within seven days.

Authorities have been asked to confirm whether an FIR has been registered and to provide updates on the investigation status, including verification of viral footage and scrutiny of the roles played by performers, organizers and venue management.

NCW has also urged police to outline preventive measures to ensure that public and digital platforms are not used to spread content that promotes harassment or is derogatory towards women.

Summons Issued To Performers

As part of its inquiry, NCW has issued summons to stand-up comedian Pranit More and audience member Himanshu Jangra. Both have been asked to appear before the Commission on June 22, 2026.

The Commission reiterated that portraying sexual harassment or any behavior that violates women’s dignity as humor is unacceptable.

Rs 370 Biryani Controversy Sparks Outrage

The controversy stems from a viral segment in which an audience member, identified as Himanshu Jangramade remarks implying entitlement to physical intimacy after paying for a Meal worth Rs 370.

In the incident, he referred to a date scenario and suggested that spending money on food created expectations of “return,” a statement that triggered strong backlash online. The comments were widely condemned on social media, and reports indicate that Jangra has since been dismissed from his job following the controversy.
