In UP, father-in-law raped woman at gunpoint, husband gave triple talaq over phone

Lucknow: In Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh, a woman has lodged a police complaint making serious allegations against her in-laws. The woman alleges that her father-in-law took advantage of her husband’s absence and forcibly raped her several times. The victim says that she was continuously threatened and threatened to be killed if she disclosed the incident.

The woman was married in 2023

The woman, resident of Lucknow, was married in the year 2023. According to the complaint, after marriage, she was living in her in-laws’ house, where her husband was often out of the house for work. The woman alleges that during this period her father-in-law sexually assaulted her several times. She claimed that the accused threatened her with a country-made pistol and threatened her with dire consequences if she told anyone about the incident.

The woman told that a recent incident had happened on January 24. According to him, when he protested and raised an alarm, instead of getting help from other family members, he was beaten up. She alleged that instead of supporting her, her mother-in-law, sister-in-law and brother-in-law tortured her.

The victim says that upset by the incidents, she returned to her maternal home. After this, her husband called her on the phone and asked her to end the marital relationship by calling her triple talaq. The woman has called it illegal and has demanded justice.

Husband rejected the allegations

On the other hand, according to the police, during interrogation the husband rejected his wife’s allegations. He says that there were already marital disputes between the couple and his wife was having an affair with another man. The husband has cited these reasons as the reason for family tension.

Based on the woman’s complaint, the police have registered a case against her husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law and another family member under relevant sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) and the Muslim Women (Protection of Marital Rights) Act.

Rupaidiha police station in-charge Ramesh Kumar Rawat said that the allegations made in the case and the counter-allegations that have come forward are being investigated. At present no one has been arrested. He said that further legal action will be taken on the basis of whatever facts emerge in the investigation.
