TMC Crisis: Kalyan Banerjee Issues Ultimatum, Babul Supriyo & Shatrughan Sinha Back Mamata
Four-time MP and senior advocate Kalyan Banerjee asked Mamata to “choose between Abhishek and me”
Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress faced fresh turmoil Thursday as senior MP Kalyan Banerjee issued an ultimatum to party chief Mamata Banerjee, while MPs Babul Supriyo and Shatrughan Sinha pledged loyalty to her amid reports of a rebel faction.
Four-time MP and senior advocate Kalyan Banerjee asked Mamata to “choose between Abhishek and me” after recusing himself from representing nephew Abhishek Banerjee in a Calcutta HC case on the CID’s signature forgery probe.
He accused Abhishek of “arrogance” and said the party lost the 2026 West Bengal polls because of him. “If you remain dependent on Abhishek, stick with him – leave me,” Kalyan said.
Rajya Sabha MP Babul Supriyo dismissed speculation of joining rebels, posting on X: “It’s inappropriate to abandon a ship when it is in troubled waters. No matter the situation today, I am with Didi.” He added he will continue working for Bengal as an MP.
Asansol MP Shatrughan Sinha also rejected reports of joining a rebel group. “Mamata ji stood by me during my difficult times, and today I cannot abandon her,” he told PTI, recalling her support after his 2019 election defeat.
The statements come as TMC grapples with Rajya Sabha resignations and dissent from several Lok Sabha MPs.
