Government’s strictness on sale of petrol and diesel, limit on diesel purchase fixed, new rules implemented for commercial customers
Tezzbuzz Desk- The government has taken a big step to control the sale and distribution system of fuel in the country. Under the new notification, now a limit has been fixed on the purchase of High-Speed Diesel (HSD) from petrol pumps. Apart from this, the rules for purchasing fuel have also been changed for commercial and institutional customers.
According to the new instructions of the government, no customer or vehicle will be able to buy more than 200 liters of high-speed diesel in a day. At the same time, commercial and institutional consumers will no longer be allowed to take petrol or diesel from general retail petrol pumps. Such customers will have to get their fuel requirement from designated consumer pumps only.
In the notification, clear instructions have been given to petrol pump operators not to sell diesel beyond the prescribed limit. Besides, resale of purchased diesel has also been banned. Action can be taken against those who violate the rules.
Experts believe that this decision may have the biggest impact on heavy vehicles, transport operators and customers purchasing diesel in large quantities. However, this change is not being considered very effective for common drivers and private car owners, because the fuel tank capacity of most vehicles is much less than 200 litres.
The government has currently implemented these rules for 90 days. However, if necessary, the government will also reserve the right to amend or withdraw the rules during this period. The objective of the new system is said to be to ensure availability of fuel and to make the distribution system more organized.
