India’s tour to Ireland in danger due to Belfast violence, Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s debut also in danger

New Delhi. There is a cloud of uncertainty over the T20 series to be held this month between India and Ireland. The recent violence in Northern Ireland’s capital Belfast and surrounding areas has raised security concerns, due to which Cricket Ireland and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are continuously monitoring the situation. At present, no final decision has been taken regarding the series, but the current situation has increased the concern of players, officials and fans.

After completing the home series against Afghanistan, the Indian team has to tour Ireland, where it has to play a two-match T20 series. After this the team will leave for England tour. In such a situation, the Ireland tour is being considered an important part of the Indian team’s programme. However, the security crisis in Belfast has raised the possibility of this entire program being affected.

The situation in Northern Ireland worsened when social and racial tensions increased after a stabbing incident. According to various media reports, violent demonstrations started in many areas after the incident. There were reports of protesters setting vehicles on fire, damaging shops and business establishments and targeting public property. After this the security agencies became alert and many activities were affected.

In this sequence, the Inter-Provincial T20 Festival to be held in Lisburn was also cancelled. Cricket Ireland issued an official statement saying that it is continuously monitoring the situation in the affected areas. The board made it clear that the safety of players, coaches, match officials and spectators is the top priority. It was also said that a decision regarding the Irish Senior Cup and National Cup matches will be taken after reviewing the situation in the next few days.

Cricket Ireland says it is in constant touch with the local administration and relevant agencies and as new information emerges, a decision will be taken accordingly. It is clear from this statement that the board is in no mood to take any risk at the moment.

On the other hand, BCCI is also keeping a close eye on the situation. According to reports, the Indian board has started reviewing every aspect related to security. BCCI sources say that the final decision regarding the venue of the matches has to be taken by Cricket Ireland. If the Irish Board proposes any changes then the Indian Board will consider them.

  • This uncertainty may also affect the rising star of Indian cricket, Vaibhav Suryavanshi. It is believed that he could have got a chance to debut in international cricket during the Ireland tour. If the series gets postponed, canceled or there is a major change in the schedule, the wait for his debut may get longer.

However, till now no board has made any official announcement regarding cancellation or transfer of the series. Both cricket boards are evaluating the situation and awaiting advice from security agencies. In such a situation, the eyes of cricket lovers are now fixed on the coming days, when the final decision regarding the future of this important T20 series can be revealed. At present it is certain that the safety of the players will remain paramount and the future strategy will be decided on that basis.
