New Delhi: Kane Williamson, one of the legendary batsmen of New Zealand cricket, has said goodbye to international cricket. 35-year-old Williamson has announced his retirement from all formats of the game with immediate effect. With this his 16 year long and very brilliant international career has come to an end. He has taken this decision amidst the 3-match Test series being played against England, in the first match of this series the Kiwi team had to face defeat.

After this announcement, he will not participate further in the series against England and soon another player will be included in the team in his place. Announcing his retirement, Kane Williamson said, ‘I have been thinking about this for some time, but in the last few days it has become completely clear that this is the right time to part ways. I have always felt a strong hunger and passion for international cricket. I am proud of the fact that I gave my all in every match I played for New Zealand. It would not have been right to move forward with any contribution less than this and I am fortunate that I am walking away from the game on my own terms.
Kane Williamson’s strong career
Kane Williamson, who entered international cricket in 2010, is leaving as the most successful batsman in the history of New Zealand. He played 378 matches for his country and made many big records in his name. He scored the highest number of 19,346 runs for New Zealand in all three formats, which included 48 centuries and 103 half-centuries. He is New Zealand’s most successful Test batsman with 9,515 runs and 33 centuries.
He captained the Kiwi team between 2016 and 2024. Under his captaincy, New Zealand won the first ICC World Test Championship (WTC) title by defeating India in the year 2021. Apart from this, under his captaincy the team reached the finals of 2019 ODI World Cup and 2021 T20 World Cup. During this, he was elected Player of the Tournament in the 2019 ODI World Cup. Along with this, he won the ICC Test Player of the Year award in 2019.
