Company’s action against spending 53 minutes in washroom! 40 minutes compensation was made to the employee, created an uproar on social media
A private company from Ahmedabad is in the news these days on social media. An employee of the company has alleged that even his washroom breaks were being monitored. The matter escalated further when the employee claimed that the company made him stay in the office for extra time after taking full account of the time he spent in the washroom. After the incident came to light, people are calling it an interference in the personal freedom of the employees.
Full story revealed from Reddit post
The employee shared his ordeal on the r/IndianWorkplace forum on social media platform Reddit. In the post he told that he has been working in the company for the last 10 months and has always completed his work on time. But recently the company management called him and showed him the record of his washroom breaks. According to the employee, he found it extremely uncomfortable to be monitored like this.
53 minutes accounted for, 40 minutes extra work
According to the post, the company claimed that the employee spent a total of 53 minutes in the washroom, while the company’s unofficial time limit is 30 minutes. The management said that due to taking more breaks than the scheduled time, he would have to stay in the office for about 40 minutes and work. Calling it unfair, the employee said that humans should not be treated like machines.
“Never had any complaints at work”
The employee also made it clear in his post that no complaint was ever received regarding his work. He told that he used to complete all his tasks on time and remained present at the desk with full honesty during work. Even while going to the washroom, he would leave his mobile phone on the desk so that no one would think he was wasting time. Despite this, he found the company’s attitude disturbing.
Anger against the company on social media
As soon as this post went viral, there was a flood of reactions from people on social media. Many users supported the employee and said that this kind of monitoring in the office increases mental pressure. Some people called it a “toxic work culture,” while many users advised the employee to leave such a company and look for a new job. People say that employee productivity should be determined by work done, not by counting minutes.
New debate on workplace privacy
This entire matter has sparked a new debate regarding surveillance and privacy of employees in the office. People are raising questions whether companies should have the right to monitor every minute of their employees. Many users believe that excessive monitoring can affect both the mental health and efficiency of employees. Some people said that companies should maintain a balance between discipline and human behavior.
