A bus full of passengers fell into a deep ditch, more than 30 people died tragically, a heart-wrenching accident in Ethiopia.
Ethiopia bus crash: A horrific accident has occurred in the northern Amhara region of Ethiopia. At least 31 people have died and dozens are injured in this accident. The area is affected by conflict and the situation was worsened by delays in emergency services after the accident.
Let us tell you that this accident happened on Monday morning when a packed bus was going from Dessie area towards the capital Addis Ababa. Police said that during this time the bus suddenly slipped from the road and fell into a deep ditch.
Delay in rescue operation
The reason for the delay in response of emergency services after the accident is also evident. The area where the accident occurred is severely lacking in infrastructure and there is also a lack of ambulance services. This is why the injured had to be taken to the hospital in private vehicles. During this period, the condition of the injured is likely to deteriorate further.
Why are there more road accidents in Ethiopia?
Ethiopia is among the countries in the world where the rate of road accidents and deaths due to them is very high. There are many reasons behind this, the main ones being poor road infrastructure, dilapidated condition of vehicles and not effectively following traffic rules.
The road network is not sufficiently developed in many rural and hilly areas of the country. Due to narrow and bad roads, vehicles often lose control and fall into deep ravines. Apart from this, taking wrong turns, dangerous overtaking, not maintaining adequate distance between vehicles and driving above the prescribed speed limit are common problems.

Death of a large number of pedestrians
A major reason for accidents is the poor technical condition of buses and trucks. Many vehicles carry more passengers or cargo than they can handle, increasing the risk of accidents. At the same time, the safety of pedestrians is also affected due to lack of basic facilities like footpaths and zebra crossings on the roads. This is the reason why a large number of those who die in road accidents are pedestrians. Lack of timely access to relief and medical services after an accident is also a serious problem.
