8 major earthquakes in China in 40 minutes, one dead, emergency alert issued
New Delhi: 8 earthquakes were felt within 40 minutes in Qinghai province of North-West region of China. The intensity of the most powerful shock was measured at 6.3. The depth of the earthquake is said to be 10 kilometers below the ground. According to China’s local media, the administration has hurriedly issued an emergency alert in the affected area. Also, emergency teams have been deployed for relief and rescue operations.
According to China’s newspaper Global Times, the first tremor of the earthquake was felt in Qinghai province at 6:40 pm local time on Tuesday. The epicenter of the earthquake is said to be located about 567 kilometers away from the provincial capital Xi’ang.
1 person killed, 4 injured
According to initial information, one person has died in the earthquake, while 4 people are said to be injured. The government has started the rescue operation. Considering the seriousness of the incident, people have been called back from nearby coal mines. The government is gathering more information about the loss of life and property. According to the report, 2 special vehicles and 10 personnel have been sent to the spot for relief and rescue operations. The local administration will take further decisions after seeing the number of casualties.
Where is Qinghai province located?
This area of North-West China is located on the banks of the Tibetan Plateau, which is considered a complex area from geological point of view. Qinghai province is considered vulnerable to seismic activity due to the collision of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. Earthquakes are common in this area. Earthquake tremors felt in Japan
Here, earthquake tremors have also been felt in Japan. According to local media, an earthquake of 5.5 magnitude has been recorded in Ibaraki province of Japan. According to the Japan Meteorological Center, the earthquake occurred at 7:46 pm local time on Tuesday. Its center was located at a depth of about 50 kilometers from the ground.
