Earth trembled due to strong earthquake in Indonesia, people in panic

Jakarta: A 6.7-magnitude earthquake struck parts of Indonesia on Tuesday, followed by several aftershocks. Strong tremors were felt for more than a minute after the first shock. There was no immediate information about damage or casualties. With the earthquake, people started running out of their homes. According to information, the epicenter of the earthquake was 46 kilometers (29 miles) east-south-east of Palu, the capital of Central Sulawesi province. According to the US Geological Survey, its depth was about 10 kilometers (6 miles). Indonesia is surrounded by many seismic faults, and earthquakes and volcanic activity are common here.

According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the epicenter of this earthquake was about 46 kilometers south-east of Palu. Geographically, it was recorded at 1.073° south latitude and 120.263° east longitude, while its depth was measured at 45 kilometers.

Panic spread among the people

The NCS said the earthquake struck at 08:57 am (local time), shaking buildings and causing panic among people. People came out of their homes in panic. In the pictures from Palu, people can be seen gathering in open places.

In the video, people can be seen running out of the building. There was shouting and screaming at the spot. Out of fear, people are seen protecting themselves by picking up chairs. Many people held each other’s hands tightly. This horrific scene has given rise to concern.
