Mayurbhanj: 8-Month Pregnant Woman, Husband Critical After Mob Attack

According to the complaint, Sipuna Mallik was at home when more than 30 people from Uparasahi area of the same village barged in, dragged him out, tied him to a tree and thrashed him mercilessly.

When his pregnant wife intervened, she was also beaten on the village street.

Sipuna, who works as a migrant labour in some other State, had recently returned home for Raja festival along with some youths from Uparasahi who worked with him. He claims he had cleared all their dues. However, the youths alleged Sipuna had not paid them, leading to the attack.

On receiving information, Kaptipada police reached the spot, rescued the couple and admitted them to hospital. A written complaint has been filed at Kaptipada police station in this regard.

Police said an investigation is underway. The incident has triggered outrage in the area.
