New Rules: Big relief to driving license holders! No 20, now DL will be valid for this many years

New Rules: There is great news for driving license holders. The Central Government is considering such a proposal, after the implementation of which people will not need to renew their driving license again and again. The government is planning to increase the validity period of the license from the current 20 years to 50 years. If this proposal is approved, crores of drivers will get relief from making rounds of RTO.

Why is this change being made?
At present, when the validity of the driving license expires, people have to go to the RTO office for its renewal. This not only wastes the time of common citizens but also increases the additional workload on government offices. The government believes that increasing the validity of licenses will simplify the administrative process and provide more convenience to people in availing government services. This step is being taken in the direction of ‘Ease of Living’ i.e. simplifying the daily life of the citizens.

States expressed concern
However, some state governments have expressed concern about this proposal. He says that reducing the number of license renewals may affect the revenue received through fees. But officials of the Union Road Transport Ministry say that this change will not have any major impact on the income of the states and its benefits will be much greater.

Vehicle transfer process will also be easy
The government is preparing to simplify not only the driving license but also the process related to buying and selling of old vehicles. At present, after selling or buying a vehicle, many formalities have to be completed for ownership transfer. Under the new proposal, this entire process can be done online. With this, vehicle owners will be able to complete the vehicle transfer process through the internet sitting at home and there will be no need to visit transport offices.

Strict action will be taken against those who break traffic rules
The government is also considering implementing a ‘negative point system’ to strengthen road safety. Under this system, negative points will be recorded on the licenses of drivers who violate traffic rules. If more negative points are accumulated against a driver than the prescribed limit, his driving license can be suspended or canceled permanently. This will help in curbing reckless driving.

When will the new rules come into effect?
At present, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has not announced any fixed date for implementing these proposed changes. According to the ministry, the scheme is still in its initial stage and discussions are going on at various levels. However, considering the government’s increasing focus on Digital India and modernization of transport services, it is believed that a final decision on these reforms can be taken in the coming time.
