Countdown to rebellion in Shiv Sena, what is going on in Maharashtra?
The political situation has been continuously challenging for Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) chief Uddhav Thackeray since the year 2022. The rebellion led by Eknath Shinde not only divided the party into two, but also snatched away Shiv Sena’s name and election symbol. Now after four years, the party is once again in the news due to speculations of a possible breakup. This is also confirmed by Sanjay Raut’s tweet, he has clearly said that Shiv Sena MPs have been offered Rs 15 crore.
According to sources, out of the 9 MPs from the Uddhav Thackeray faction that won the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, 6 may leave the party. It is being told that this development may come to light before the foundation day of Shiv Sena on June 19.
Will Bengal play like it did?
According to reports, the nature of the possible rebellion may be similar to the situation like the breakup of Trinamool Congress in West Bengal. It is being told that two MPs have already reached Delhi, while the other four MPs are also going to come to Delhi. A meeting of these MPs is expected to be held at the residence of Eknath Shinde’s son and MP Shrikant Shinde. After this, there is also talk of MPs meeting Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
How did the discussion of breaking Shiv Sena start?
This entire incident started when 5 out of 9 MPs were not present in the meeting held at Uddhav Thackeray’s residence ‘Matoshree’. After this, speculations about a possible split in the party intensified. However, Sanjay Raut, a close aide of Uddhav Thackeray, clarified that Omprakash Rajenimbalkar, Bhausaheb Wakchore, Nagesh Bapurao Patil Ashtikar and Sanjay Deshmukh had participated in the meeting virtually. Whereas MP Sanjay Jadhav had talked to Uddhav Thackeray on phone and had asked to meet later.
Despite this, the suspicion increased further when MP Sanjay Deshmukh met Union Minister Prataprao Jadhav of Eknath Shinde faction. Although Deshmukh called it a non-political meeting, it gave further strength to the speculations.
What did Uddhav Thackeray say?
After maintaining silence for two days, Uddhav Thackeray reacted on this issue. Referring to the rebellion of 2022, in the meeting of party MPs, he said that he was already aware of the possible rebellion, but he did not put pressure on anyone. Uddhav Thackeray said, “Today may not be my day, but tomorrow will definitely be mine. Till then we will have to be patient and face the circumstances.”
He further said, “I have been the Chief Minister of the state. Do people think that I did not know anything? I had an idea of what was going to happen. But I did not put pressure on anyone nor did I get investigation files opened against anyone.”
What did senior party leader Anil Desai say?
However, despite Uddhav Thackeray’s statement, senior party leader Anil Desai has denied the possibility of any kind of break. He said that Uddhav Thackeray regularly calls meetings of MPs and all the MPs have expressed confidence in his leadership.
Anil Desai said, “There is no such thing. All the MPs are with the leadership of Uddhav ji. There is no pressure on anyone. Such things keep coming up from time to time, but there is no truth in them.”
What did Sanjay Raut allege?
When some MPs reached Delhi on Tuesday, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut made serious allegations. He wrote on social media that MPs are being offered money to create a split in the party.
Sanjay Raut wrote in his post, “Apna Sapna Money Money! It is shocking and shameful that Maharashtra MPs are allegedly being offered Rs 15-15 crore to switch parties tonight.” Raut also tagged Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in his post. After this Sanjay Raut wrote that every MP is going to get Rs 50-50 crore. Rs 15 crore is for advance.
At present, political discussions are intense regarding a possible break in Shiv Sena (UBT). Although the party leadership is continuously denying any rebellion, the situation is likely to become more clear in the coming days.
