‘No one knew before 2017…’ Akhilesh Yadav raised questions on the identity of CM Yogi
‘Gorakhpur’ has once again become the focal point in the politics of Uttar Pradesh. National President of Samajwadi Party and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has strongly attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government. After an important meeting with party leaders from Gorakhpur at the SP state headquarters in Lucknow, Akhilesh Yadav released a special booklet. In this booklet, the raw story of poor education, health, increasing crime and false promises in Gorakhpur during the ten years of BJP government has been opened. Akhilesh Yadav directly attacked Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and said that ‘Chief Minister is running a racket in Gorakhpur’ and he has ruined the entire system there.
In fact, the former Chief Minister of UP expressed deep concern that the basic facilities in Gorakhpur, which is the home area of the state chief, are failing. Akhilesh Yadav alleges that the BJP government has snatched away the first step of education from the children of the poor. In the last ten years, about 500 primary schools have been closed within Gorakhpur district alone. He sarcastically said that on one hand the Chief Minister is getting his own private university ready, while on the other hand poor children are being deprived of education by locking the government primary schools. The effect of closing the schools was that the government took away the employment and jobs of about 1500 people including teachers.
Bad condition of health services, silver of private hospitals
Even on the health front, Akhilesh Yadav put the government in the dock through statistics. He said that since 2017 till now, 68 Primary Health Centers (PHC) have been closed in Gorakhpur. Akhilesh claimed, “In 2017, a total of 77 primary health centers were active in Gorakhpur, but today their number has reduced to only 9.” The SP chief alleged that government health centers are being closed as a deliberate strategy so that the business of private hospitals can flourish. Presenting the figures, he said that while there were only 37 private hospitals in Gorakhpur in the year 2017, in the last ten years these have increased 13 times to 501. The general public has been left to rely on expensive treatment.
Circle on increasing crime against Dalits and women
Akhilesh Yadav also raised questions on the Chief Minister’s visits to Gorakhpur. He said that the Chief Minister visits his area the most, but despite this, Gorakhpur has become number one in terms of crimes against Dalits. Citing NCRB data, the SP President said that maximum crimes are being committed against Dalits in Uttar Pradesh. Since 2017, there has been a huge jump of 37 percent in crimes against Dalits in Gorakhpur alone. Along with this, crimes against women have also increased by 14 percent. Law and order has completely collapsed.
Corruption and poor infrastructure in development works
During this press conference held in SP office, the issue of corruption in development works was also raised. Akhilesh Yadav said that there has been large-scale corruption and ‘corruption’ in the construction of Gorakhpur Link Fourlane Road. He quipped that perhaps the Chief Minister does not even know that the expressway has at least 6 lanes. The condition of the link road that was built is such that immediately after its inauguration, huge potholes appeared on the road. Apart from this, he alleged that in the name of development in Gorakhpur, lands of the poor were forcibly taken away and land mafias have taken illegal possession of the ponds.
Akhilesh Yadav did not stop here, he also took a dig at the personal identity of the Chief Minister. He said that every day the Chief Minister makes big statements about the identity of Uttar Pradesh, whereas the bitter truth is that before the year 2017, no one even knew the Chief Minister himself, he did not have any special identity of his own.
While revealing the upcoming election strategy, the former Chief Minister announced that Samajwadi Party is going to organize a big workers conference in Gorakhpur very soon. The state president will announce the last date of this conference soon after discussing with the organization. Akhilesh Yadav claimed that all the leaders and workers attending the meeting have resolved to give a historic victory to the Samajwadi Party on all the seats of Gorakhpur in the upcoming assembly elections. This time, SP will work with full force to corner BJP in its own stronghold and oust it on ‘zero’.
