Sanchita Ugale’s cousin links her death to industry pressure
The death of television actor Sanchita Ugale has triggered fresh questions about the pressures faced by young artists trying to build a career in the entertainment industry.
Hours after the 26-year-old actor was found dead at her residence in Mumbai, her cousin brother Akash Satish Ugale publicly alleged that she had been struggling with stress and mental harassment from people linked to the casting circuit.
Speaking to the media, Akash drew comparisons with the death of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput and claimed that both cases reflected the darker side of the industry.
He stated, “Sushant Singh Rajput committed suicide on 14th June 2020. Why? Because Bollywood, this industry, put a lot of pressure on him, and because of that pressure, he committed suicide. In the same way, yesterday my sister also committed suicide for the same reason, that’s what I’m saying.
This industry has given a lot of threats. Like Sushant Singh Rajput did. He ate it and dug it out while walking. It is in the hands of very bad people. Ultimately, the power game is going on. Middle class families like ours, where girls and boys are dependent on them, they are suppressed.”
Akash also claimed that the Dilwali Dulha Le Jayegi actress had a private Instagram account and said a reel related to Sushant Singh Rajput had been uploaded from it.
He further alleged that some people involved in casting had been harassing her and that she had been upset in recent weeks.
Police have registered an accidental death report and said the investigation is ongoing. Officials are trying to determine the circumstances that led to the alleged suicide.
Following the news, the All Indian Cine Workers Association called for a high-level inquiry into the actor’s death.
Sanchita was known for her work in TV shows including Kumkum Bhagya and Wagle’s World.
