To increase the strength of the tricolor, there will be a scientific study of the fabric, it will not be harmed even by storms and washing.
After recent incidents of national flag being torn at several places during a storm with a speed of more than 100 km/hr, the Delhi Government has started seriously considering this issue. Now, to increase the strength and durability of the tricolor, a plan is being made to conduct a technical study of its fabric. At the government level, suggestions have also been sought from the engineers of some textile industries of Delhi as to which fabric can be used, which can protect the national flag from damage even in conditions like strong wind, rain and storm.
According to Delhi’s PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh, the use of such fabric in the construction of the national flag is being considered which does not tear even in strong storms. Along with this, there is also a plan to ensure that even after repeated washing, there is no effect on the threads and stitching of the flag. The objective is that the strength and quality of the national flag should remain for a long time. For this, it has been proposed to conduct a mechanical, chemical and design based scientific study on the entire process of textile fibres, yarn manufacturing and finished fabric by involving engineers from some textile industries of Delhi.
This initiative has been started after the recent incidents of the Tricolor being torn at many places due to storms with speeds of more than 100 km per hour. Now the use of such a cloth for the national flag is being considered which does not get damaged even in stormy conditions. For this purpose, there is a plan to conduct a scientific study of the flag fabric, in which the technical standards of quality and strength of the fabric will be decided. Special emphasis will be laid on determining the GSM (grams per square meter) of the fabric, so that fabric of appropriate weight and strength can be selected for the national flag. Apart from this, all aspects from the quality of thread to the stitching technique will be examined in detail in the study.
