Peace agreement between America and Iran sealed, Trump and Pejeshkian sign MoU
Evian, 18 June. After months of conflict between America and Iran, an agreement has been reached between the two countries. US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pejeshkian signed the Iran-US Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) digitally. US President Trump signed this MoU in the presence of his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron. “This evening, just before a dinner hosted by President Emmanuel Macron in Versailles, France, Secretary of State Marco Rubio received the Iran Accord Memorandum, followed by President Donald Trump’s signing,” White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino wrote on the social media platform X.
Republican Senator Eric Schmitt said in an interview with Fox News on Wednesday that President Trump has achieved what many thought was impossible, weakening Iran’s military and nuclear capabilities and opening the way for diplomacy. Schmidt said Iran has promised not to develop nuclear weapons for the first time. He stressed that this agreement should be based on the principle of verification rather than trust. According to a report by American media organization New York Post, Iran’s early peace arrangement with the US could open the way for Tehran to strengthen Hezbollah’s economic and political position in Lebanon. The report said that after the agreement, Iran may start receiving money from unfrozen funds and oil deals.
American media New York Post quoted news agency sources as saying that under this MoU, Iran will benefit from post-war investment, sanctions relief and hundreds of billions of unfrozen funds. In such a situation, Iran will use the Reconstruction Fund to support its badly damaged terror proxy in Lebanon. Tehran has promised to quickly provide financial aid to Hezbollah, which could help the group reorganize its military and political activities in Lebanon, two regional diplomats and two senior Lebanese sources were quoted as saying.
Hezbollah’s communications office has confirmed that Iran publicly supports the organization. Citing data from the US Finance Department, the report said that last year a transfer of about one billion dollars was also involved. The office said Iran’s support would continue, regardless of the arrangements for the withdrawal of funds. The US has said that Iran cannot use its unfrozen funds to finance any terrorist organization. It has also been warned that if the agreement is violated, the funds can be frozen again.
