Promoting self-reliant India, Rajnath Singh will perform Bhoomi Pujan of Aluminum Extrusion Press in Nagpur

Knews Desk- This is going to be another important initiative towards strengthening the defense manufacturing capacity of the country and accelerating the goal of self-reliant India. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will on Friday perform the Bhoomi Pujan of a 10,000 tonne capacity state-of-the-art Aluminum Extrusion Press at Yantra India Limited (YIL), Ordnance Factory Ambazari, Nagpur, Maharashtra.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Defense Production Secretary Sanjeev Kumar and many senior officials of the Defense Ministry and Yantra India Limited will also be present in this program. This project will play an important role in the production of large, high-strength and precision aluminum alloy components for the defense and aerospace requirements of the country.

According to the Defense Ministry, the start of this extrusion press will significantly reduce India’s import dependence and it will be possible to manufacture aluminum components with advanced technology in the country itself. Till now many important aluminum parts for defense and space sectors were imported from abroad, but after this project the indigenous production capacity will be strengthened.

This project has been prepared in line with the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whose objective is to promote defense production in the country and empower domestic industries. The government believes that this will not only increase strategic self-reliance but will also create new employment opportunities.

Meanwhile, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has expressed satisfaction over the increasing defense production of the country. He said that India’s annual defense production has reached an all-time high of Rs 1.78 lakh crore in the financial year 2025-26, which is 15.6 percent more than the previous year.

According to Defense Ministry data, defense production has registered a growth of 110 percent since the financial year 2020-21. In comparison to 2013-14, it has increased almost four times. The share of public sector in this production has been 76 percent and the share of private sector has been 24 percent.

Along with this, India has also made a record in defense exports, which has reached Rs 38,424 crore in the financial year 2025-26. This achievement reflects the country’s growing defense industrial base and India’s strengthening position in the global market.
