According to the information, during a religious program, a person from the Jain community suddenly climbed on top of this monument and placed a white religious flag on it. MNS’s Malad division president Mahesh Farkase reached the spot with a large number of workers. Seeing the urgency of the situation, the police force also reached there immediately to prevent the situation from going out of control.

In the presence of the police, MNS workers took the man to task and asked in strong words that how can someone put a religious flag on a symbol considered to be the identity of Maharashtra? Activists said that Shivaji Maharaj is adored by entire Maharashtra and such actions deeply hurt public sentiments.

Seeing the increasing pressure and the fiery performance of MNS, the Jain man realized his mistake. In front of a huge crowd and police, the man folded his hands and publicly apologized. She claimed that the mistake was unintentional and her intention was not to insult anyone. Soon after, he removed the white flag from above the monument. As soon as the flag was removed, slogans of Jai Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Jai Bhavani, Jai Shivaji started being heard in the entire area.

Adding fuel to the fire of white belt controversy

This incident has happened at a time when there is already an uproar in Mumbai over the white belt controversy. In fact, to facilitate the march of Jain monks, white stripes were painted on many roads in Mumbai, which opposition parties like MNS and Shiv Sena are strongly opposing. They argue that public roads cannot be altered in such a way to facilitate a particular community.
