New Delhi, June 19. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh has attacked the foreign policy of the Central Government regarding the 14-point ‘Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)’ signed between America and Iran, saying that this is a big blow to the Modi government. He said that calling this agreement ‘Islamabad MoU’ reflects the growing regional and global role of Pakistan and is a serious blow to the foreign policy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Ramesh said that after the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, the then Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh had isolated Pakistan globally, but now Pakistan is playing a more influential role in the geopolitical and security system of West Asia, which could have serious implications for India. He said that if this MoU is implemented in accordance with its letter and spirit, it will be an important progress, although there is a possibility of it turning into a ‘Memorandum of Misunderstanding’.
According to him, the next 60 days will be very important for the success of this agreement. The Congress leader claimed that Iran has got many important and unexpected benefits from this agreement and it has shown its resistance and determination. He said that the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries have welcomed the agreement with caution, but they may also review their strategic relations.
Calling it a diplomatic defeat for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Ramesh alleged that Prime Minister Modi still stands in support of Israel’s policies. He said that this attitude of the government towards Israel is proving costly for India’s interests. He also raised questions on the role of America and said that the military operations launched against Iran have not achieved their declared objectives. Along with this, he criticized the foreign policy of the Central Government, accusing Prime Minister Modi of “appeasement” towards the US President.
