Will Shubman Gill overtake Kohli? World record on target of Indian captain

Shubman Gill is in tremendous form. After playing an inning of 126 runs in the only Test against Afghanistan, Team India captain has scored 238 runs in the first two matches of the ODI series. Shubman had played an unbeaten inning of 84 runs in the first ODI played in Dharamshala. After this he scored 154 runs in Lucknow ODI. During his innings in Dharamshala, Shubman had crossed the mark of 3000 ODI runs. After Hashim Amla, he became the second batsman in the world to achieve this feat in the shortest innings.

26 year old Shubman achieved this milestone in 62 innings, breaking the Indian record of Shikhar Dhawan (72 innings). He left legends like Virat Kohli (75 innings) far behind. Now he is moving fast towards breaking another record of Kohli. If Shubman maintains his form in the ODI format, he can also break the world record.

Which world record is Shubman’s target?

Shubman, who started his ODI career in 2019, has so far scored 3191 runs in 63 innings in this format. During this period, he has scored 9 centuries and 18 half-centuries. His best ODI score is 208. Shubman has a chance to break the world record of scoring the fastest 4000 ODI runs. If he scores 808 runs in the next 17 innings i.e. less than 50 runs per innings, then the South African legend can leave Amla behind. Amla had scored 4000 ODI runs in 81 innings, which is the fastest in terms of innings.

It is not that difficult for Shubman to defeat Amla. He has scored 373 runs in 5 ODI innings this year at an average of 93.25. If he fails to leave Amla behind, then it is certain that he would like to at least make the Indian record in his name, for which he will get 12 extra innings. Currently, Kohli is the fastest Indian batsman to score 4000 ODI runs. He had crossed this figure in 92 innings.
