No one is stronger than me, Trump’s aggressive statement on Iran deal!
In a lengthy press conference after the G7 summit in France, Trump repeatedly described the agreement as a major success made possible by military power and diplomatic coordination, saying, “On Sunday we reached an agreement with Iran, which achieved everything we wanted to achieve.
Trump said that if we had not made this deal, we could have dropped more bombs for the next three weeks, four weeks, two years. The Strait of Hormuz never opens. Continued military action would destabilize the Gulf and disrupt global energy markets.
The US President repeatedly linked the agreement to falling oil prices and a rally in the stock market, saying that whenever the prospects of an agreement strengthened, investors responded positively.
“Every time we talked about the possibility of peace, the stock market went up like a rocket,” he said. He also rejected comments from conservative critics who believed military pressure on Iran should have been maintained.
The US President pointed to his decision to kill Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani in 2020 and recent attacks on the Iranian military and nuclear facilities, saying there was no one more powerful than me.
The President said that this agreement will prevent Iran from making or acquiring nuclear weapons. Iran has agreed that they will neither make nor buy nuclear weapons. If they don’t respect the agreement we will probably keep bombing them until they respect it.
Trump also said that economic relief to Iran would depend on its behavior. “If they are doing the right thing, if people want to invest then they can invest but we are not investing money,” he said.
Defending the agreement, the US President admitted that it is an MOU, which is very important.
According to an analysis published in American media The New York Times, the agreement signals a significant shift away from weeks-long military confrontation toward a framework for deterrence and negotiated compliance.
American media said that the Trump government is betting on the assessment that the mere threat of future military action would be enough to implement the agreement and that no formal treaty framework would be required.
The Washington Post described this agreement as one of the most important foreign policy initiatives of Trump’s second term. The White House is hoping to get diplomatic results through military pressure.
The Wall Street Journal said the government argued that reopening the Strait of Hormuz and reducing the risk of disruption to global oil supplies could have major economic benefits beyond the Middle East. The US President said that this deal could become the foundation of a larger regional agreement.
“As I told world leaders this week, I hope this peace agreement will be the beginning of a much bigger deal across the Middle East,” he said.
