IND vs ENG: When will Virat Kohli return to Team India? Update came before the third ODI
37 year old Kohli’s entire focus is currently on the 2027 ODI World Cup. Keeping this goal in mind, he is continuously working on both his fitness and batting. However, due to injury in the final of IPL 2026 last month, he had to stay out of the ODI series against Afghanistan.
Kohli started his rehab
Kohli suffered this injury during the IPL 2026 final against Gujarat Titans. In that match, he played a match-winning inning of 75 runs and played an important role in making Royal Challengers Bangalore champion for the second consecutive time. During the same match, he suffered a strain in his hamstring.
Virat will reach the Center of Excellence
According to the Times of India report, Virat has started his rehabilitation and the injury is healing rapidly. Now he will have to report to BCCI’s Center of Excellence for fitness clearance. After getting the green signal from the medical team there, he will be available for the England tour.
A BCCI source said that if everything goes as per plan, Kohli will make a comeback in the ODI series against England.
Kohli close to 15 thousand runs
This series will also be an opportunity for Virat to achieve another big achievement. He currently has 14797 runs in ODI cricket and needs only 203 runs to complete 15000 runs. If he touches this figure, he will become the second batsman in the world after Sachin Tendulkar to score 15 thousand ODI runs.
When will Team India be announced?
Kohli’s recent ODI record has also been excellent. In 2026, he has scored 240 runs in three matches. In 2025, he scored 651 runs in 13 ODI matches, which included three centuries and four half-centuries.
The BCCI selection committee can announce the ODI team for the England tour in the next three to four days. The three-match ODI series between India and England will be played from July 14 to July 19. The matches will be held in Birmingham, Cardiff and Lord’s. In such a situation, everyone’s eyes are now on Virat’s fitness report and his return.
