Bengal caste certificate re-verification CPI(ML) legal challenge High Court PIL filed!

CPI(ML) Liberation has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Calcutta High Court, terming as unconstitutional the decision of re-verification of all caste certificates issued to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) during the last 15 years in West Bengal.

State Secretary Abhijit Majumdar and State Committee member Malay Tiwari are the petitioners in this petition filed by the party.

CPI(ML) Liberation in its statement alleged that after completing the process of Special Intensive Review (SIR) to take away the franchise, now the BJP government wants to implement a new “SIR” to remove the rights of reservation.

The party says that instead of effectively implementing the existing system of checking and vigilance on fake caste certificates, genuine SC-ST and OBC citizens are facing interrogation and harassment.

The statement claimed that through this process, an attempt is being made to weaken the identity of the new generation of Dalit, Tribal and Bahujan communities and the constitutional rights related to them.

CPI(ML) also alleged that linking the inclusion or non-inclusion of a person’s name in the Special Intensive Review (SIR) with the verification of caste certificate is completely illegal.

The party said that it has started this legal fight to protect the interests of Dalit, Tribal and Bahujan communities and it will be continued in the future also. Also, the West Bengal State Committee has called for protecting these rights by launching a massive mass campaign and movement at all levels of the society.
