Nationwide ‘mock drill’ to test preparedness
Giving information, the officials said that extensive arrangements related to security and administration have been made to conduct the NEET exam smoothly and uninterrupted. The main objective of conducting nationwide ‘Mock Drills’ is to thoroughly test the preparedness of the examination centres. Along with this, coordination between various security and administrative agencies involved in this entire process has to be further improved.
While the administration is busy in preparations, on the other hand a case of major negligence has come to light. A student in Nagpur, Maharashtra was allotted the examination center directly to Abu Dhabi instead of India.
Nagpur, Wardha and Bhandara were selected in priority.
Student Abdullah Talib had prioritized Nagpur, Wardha and Bhandara in his choice of examination centre. His father Dr Mohammad Talib told a news channel that the student was surprised to see that he had been allotted the examination center in Abu Dhabi when he received the admit card issued by NTA. However, after the student’s parents raised the issue with the NTA, the agency has assured them of allotting them a new exam centre.
Former education minister targeted
This glitch has come to light on a day when ‘mock drill’ was conducted across the country on Saturday before the re-examination of NEET-UG 2026. Meanwhile, Congress leader and former Maharashtra Education Minister Anees Ahmed has reacted sharply on this. He said that such irregularities put more pressure on the students who are already facing stress regarding the examinations. Attacking the government, he said, “Despite this, there is no improvement in the government system. Don’t play with the future of the students.”
NEET Re-Exam Details: This re-examination will be conducted on June 21 from 2 pm to 5:15 pm through pen-paper. More than 22.79 lakh candidates will appear in this examination and it will be conducted in 551 cities of India and 14 abroad. It may be noted that the preliminary examination was canceled amid allegations of question paper leak and the investigation into the matter was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi’s allegation
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has raised strong questions on the working style of the Central Government and the National Testing Agency (NTA) on shifting the examination center of a candidate from Nagpur to Abu Dhabi for the NEET-UG re-examination 2026. Mr Gandhi alleged that the examination system has completely failed and the government and NTA are playing with the future of the students.
Passport is not an economic resource, student remained in tension all night: Rahul Gandhi
Giving the example of the victim student, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that a student from Nagpur was preparing for NEET re-exam for the last one month. When she downloaded her admit card just a day before the exam, her exam center was allotted Abu Dhabi.
He added: “The student neither had a passport, nor the financial resources to go abroad, nor did he have enough time to go there and take the exam. Because of this, the student remained under immense stress the whole night and refused to even take the exam.”
‘NTA is testing the patience of parents and students’
Taking on the government, Gandhi said that if an examination system cannot provide an examination center to a student in his own city and allots a center abroad, then it has no right to conduct the examination. He alleged that NTA is testing the patience of the country’s students and their parents.
Referring to the Kota visit, Gandhi said,
“I had also said in Kota that the education system of the country has no longer become a medium of education, but a means of extorting money, time and mental peace of the students.”
NTA admitted the mistake, said- the error happened due to ‘technical error’
It is worth noting that when this serious matter came to light, NTA accepted it, calling it a technical error. The agency says that
This error occurred due to a system glitch and will be fixed soon. NTA has given full assurance to the family of the victim student that the revised admit card will be released soon, which will mention the correct examination centre. Along with this, an official email has also been sent by the agency to the student’s family, in which it has been said that this error will be completely rectified by the evening.
