The U.S. dollar rose against the Vietnamese dong on the black market Saturday morning.
The greenback went up 6% to VND26,600 at unofficial exchange points. Vietcombank kept its rate unchanged at VND26,440.
The State Bank of Vietnam maintained its reference rate at VND25,181.
Globally, the dollar index traded around 13-month highs on Friday, fueled by a firm pledge from new Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh to tackle inflation and ensure price stability, Reuters reported.
With the dollar in the ascendant, the yen stayed on the back-foot to trade around 161.3 , leaving the U.S. currency at its strongest since last July.
Sterling was last up 0.25% on the dollar at $1.3238, bouncing off a near-three month low hit in Asia trade.
The Canadian dollar was trading 0.3% lower at 1.4180 per U.S. dollar, or 70.52 U.S. cents, heading for its seventh straight daily decline.
