Earlier in 2004, Team India had scored 22 runs in the first over of the innings of the ODI match.

Now Team India has broken its own record after 22 years. Today against Afghanistan, Yashasvi Jaiswal faced 8 balls in the first ball over and scored 14 runs. Team India had got 5 runs as penalty at the beginning of the innings. The remaining 4 runs were scored by the Indian team in the form of wides and no balls.

How were 23 runs scored in the first over?

Azmatullah Omarzai bowled the first over of India’s innings for Afghanistan. India started their innings at 5/0 as Afghan captain Shahidi was given a penalty of 5 runs for running in the danger area.

Umarzai bowled the first ball to Yashasvi Jaiswal and no runs were scored on it. After this, the second ball of the over was bowled wide and the team got 1 run. Yashasvi scored 2 runs on the second legal ball of this over.

After this, Jaiswal scored 4 runs by hitting a four on the third ball. Umarzai bowled the fourth ball as a no ball and along with 1 run, India got a free hit. After this he bowled a wide ball, the team got 1 run and the free hit remained intact.
